Clerk has more of an eye for profit than running a comfortable bar, but the two have luckily managed to run hand in hand for him. The beer and beds at the Gorgon’s Head are the cheapest by far anywhere in Firetop, although the quality isn’t the worst by a long straw. A dirty bar wouldn’t make as much money as a clean one, after all, even if some of the sawdust has been bleached and recycled (much like some of the beer).
Clerk is a perfectly willing to allow many of the nefarious teamsters and criminals of the city to use his bar as a den and meeting hall, renting them upstairs snugs or downstairs cellars to use for their own purposes. He is a keen money-lender, and uses the profits to fund illegal fight nights in the warehouse district of Firetop, skimming cash in for gambling nights at the Gorgon’s Head or by running somewhat crooked books. Although he has contacts amongst the Agents of the Eye, he has never affiliated himself to them or to any organisation – he’s in it for himself, and too mistrustful to bring anyone else in or risk sharing the profits.
He knows Garrett is now the Agents of the Eye’s go to man for Firetop, and has been paid to keep a weather eye out on the tiefling’s behalf for any interesting rumours on the go, a service he does with the same bad grace he approaches life with.
