Ellithral the Golden is a charming half-elven bard, often found performing or chattering amongst the patrons of the Yawning Portal inn. Once an adventurer himself, his travels with no less than the owner (Durnan the Wanderer) were cut short at around the same time he lost his left hand at the wrist. Garrulous, friendly and keen to know all new-comers to the inn, he is often one of the first people a stranger will meet at the Yawning Portal. He has re-learnt the art of plucking a lute one-handed, and frequently sits on the stairs of the inn, strumming idly as he gossips and drinks.
Although he still knows a wealth of half-remembered song, story and legend, and has even travelled extensively in Undermountain, his happy-go-lucky exterior hides a shadow of pain. Although he is reluctant to speak of the events that led to the end of his adventuring days, it is obvious something scarred him not only physically but also mentally. The discomfort of those memories is now eased with the wine he continuously drinks.
He is happy enough now to advise or tease younger adventurers, and would far rather cadge wine or try and seek financial support through his knack with poetry than risk his own life in the dim halls below the town again. His advice never comes free, for he knows the value of his knowledge, but will always take the offer of a drink or the patronage of a commission over coin, for the sake of appearances.
