The hub of all commerce in Undermountain, Skullport is a city where almost anything can be bought, especially if it is illegal elsewhere or in some way dangerous to a safe way of live. Slaves, body parts, drugs, poisons, life itself are all exchanged for money and jewels here, in the shuttered warrens of dingy houses that clutch the dismal banks of the river Sargauth as it flows queasily through the third level of Undermountain.
Technically ruled by a necromancer, Shradin Mulopher, the teeming town is in fact in a state of organised chaos, as various rival power groups vie for domination. Chief amongst these are the Agents of the Eye, although other groups of note include the Iron Ring slavers, the Kraken Society and many rival houses of Drow. Order of a sort is kept by the Skulls that give the city its name, the remnants of the wizards that originally established the town when The Blackcloak set it up as a training post. They are now disembodied floating skulls that wield a variety of deadly spells, and have never hesitated for an excuse to exterminate troublemakers.
The population of the town is just about human in its majority, although several of these are undead monstrosities like vampires or liches. Drow, various goblinoids, Duergar, Svirfneblin, Derro, Beholders, Illithids, Aboleths, Demons, Dragons, Devils and worse are all amongst its inhabitants, and it is a brave surface dweller that tries to make its way in such company.
